General Description Purchase College SUNY offers a five week summer archaeology program in Israel, which combines an intensive archaeological field school experience with touring and study. Students will work at the archaeological site of Khirbet Summeily, which dates to the 10th-8th centuries BCE. The program includes a trip to Jerusalem, and field trips to the Dead Sea, the Mediterranean coast, and northern Israel. Courses All students enroll in two courses. The first is a field school, “Methods and Techniques in Field Archaeology,” in which students will learn all aspects of excavation methodology. and will participate in the fieldwork every day. The second course, “Archaeological Issues in the Southern Levant,” will teach about the history and archaeology of the country, through lectures, field trips, and occasional workshops. The field trips will bring students to many archaeological sites as well as other important destinations, including Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the oasis of Ein Gedi, sites on the Mediterranean coast, and several cities in northern Israel.
